2010 Adventure Plans

Over the past month or so I have started to nail down some of the for sure events I will be doing this year. I was having trouble keeping track of them, so I started a Google document with them. Then I thought to myself “Hell, I am gonna share this with people on my blog, they might be interested”, and that is how this brand spankin shiny new page was born. Below is a little list of the events I am planning on, click on the name of each of them to learn some more information about it.

Hells Gate Hundred – Death Valley, CA
April 3rd
100 Miles with 8000+ ft of elevation gain. This will be my first climbing century. I am planning on riding it with Errin.

100 Miles of Nowhere – North Hills, CA
April Something-th
This is the annual century organized by Fat Cyclist. The idea is, you pay your entrance fee, get your race packet in the mail, and then on a given date you ride 100 miles in the shortest way possible. This means, on a trainer, rollers or around the block. I am hoping to organize the 100 miles of Nowhere group ride and spin around a block somewhere safe near a bathroom. I will post more on this when I know more.
There isn’t an official event announcement yet, but I will be sure to post information on it when it is available.

Cool Breeze Double Metric Century – Moorpark, CA
August 21st
This is 124 miles and 8400 ft of elevation gain. This is a ride I wanted to do last year but didn’t get my ducks in order and actually do it. This year I am doing it, and I am doing it with my buddy Jacob.

Los Angeles River Ride Century – Griffith Park, CA
June 6th
Last year, this was my first century. I rode it on my Cannondale Synapse with Jacob and Justin. I really wanted to finish it in 6 hours. I ended up getting sick from breakfast and wasn’t able to turn in the kind of time I wanted. This year I am going back for revenge and I am going to ride it in 6 hours or less. I am also going to be riding it on my old beater fixed gear. It shouldn’t be too hard. It does have a lot of urban riding, so the traffic lights might foil my 6 hours plans.

LA Wheelman Grand Tour Double Something – Malibu, CA
June 26th
This is the big question mark for me this year. Am I going to ride a double century? I really don’t know. I will at very least ride the double metric century option, but the lowland double might be in the cards. Stay tuned for more on this.

  1. Great plans, Marcus!

I’m currently shopping for a bike for next month’s week-long musical bike tour around Northern CA. Did it last year, and it changed me. So I figure I should get changed again. Glad I’m not the only one loving this.
